Welcome to the second weekly roundup of my new daily drawing challenge!
If you missed Week 1 where I introduced the challenge and rave about the power of Beyoncé to enable habits and heal burnout (among other things), you can read it here. You can also follow the challenge along on my Instagram!
I have a list of ideas and creative prompts I’m going through every day, but sometimes what tugs at my excitement on a specific day is what often dictates what the drawing ends up as. I’ve been trying to be more deliberate with following my intuition throughout the challenge.
Words to live by
This week featured a lot of animated abstracts and lettering experimentations. I’ve been feeling the urge to explore writing, words and messages through colour and shape recently.
As I’ve studied astrology further (I read Chani Nicholas’ fantastic book You Were Born For This), I’ve come to understand that as a Virgo rising (alongside a Gemini sun), communication, the exchange of ideas, the synthesis of concepts (hello illustration), and yes, writing, make a up a big part of my work, what motivates me, and my career.
Routine and disruption
For the past two weeks my socialising schedule has been a bit insane as there have been so many friends visiting — which is fun! — but disruptive and challenging in terms of habit-setting.
(I’ve finished reading James Clear’s Atomic Habits and signed up for his email guide on how to implement the strategies of his book! Looking forward to explore that further in the coming days and weeks, too.)
I also caught another cold, and ended up having to skip a day of drawing to rest and recover. I missed creating so much! I must already be addicted to the daily drawing habit.
Animation stems from the Latin "animātiō", meaning "a bestowing of life"
It’s been fun to make little animations for some of the pieces, it really brings them to life and people react in fun ways. I want to take my motion game further in the next weeks and months, but even little details add great energy to a piece.
It’s playlist time
As I mentioned last week, music has been so instrumental in this process of reconnecting with my creativity. It’s only fitting that I’d make an evolving, funky playlist of the tunes keeping my lil head bopping to the beat and my fingers pushing out these colours and shapes.
Enjoy, and see you next week!
These are brilliant! More please.
